Gift Cards

A weekend of driving kids around, showing up for people, and admitting the 30-day streak probably can't survive Saturdays and Sundays — plus some thoughts on how fast AI keeps moving the goalposts.

Thing I learned this weekend: you can’t get a Taco Bell gift card at Taco Bell — you have to go to the Albertsons next door to get one.

I feel like a 40-something-year-old cat lady — had a nice weekend and feeling very grateful. We drove down to Oxnard and hung out with friends for a kids’ birthday. Drove up to Atascadero for a coworker’s 50th. It feels nice to be invited places and be around people. It’s good to drive your kids around and do stuff too.

Deep, I know.

Also, despite my adamant determination, I am going to call it and say that I probably can’t write during the weekends cause there’s too much stuff going on (and the wife is gonna get cross with me for escaping off to the computer).

This is/was supposed to be a 30 day challenge of sorts — trying to write an entry every day. No specific character count or direction, but to see if a) I can do it and b) if I learn anything, gain anything, or improve meaningfully as a fucking human being in any way.

How crazy is AI by the way? My current favorite meme is the one that says “I remember when AI was Allen Iverson.” I guess the ChatGPT6 is out and it’s more insane than Fable. It’s like something comes out, you kinda get a grasp on it, then something new comes out.

There’s also the lingering South Park notion that all this stuff is gonna take our jerbs.

I’m trying to take a step back, breathe, and decide how I’m going to move forward. As a person whose job is affected by AI and also heavily involved, it’s been a great tool and honestly pretty fun to see what I and others can come up with.

Here’s my Monday brain dump. Enjoy your Memorial Day and don’t drink and drive.

Man — I live in California and whenever there’s a long/holiday weekend they turn on these signs that say DRIVE HIGH GET A DUI — but I have met so many people that are high 24/7 I always wonder — how will they know? Will they hold a taco in front of them and see how they react?

The world may never know.
