Upswings and White Noise

Missing a week of the 30-day challenge leads to reflections on mood swings, swimming laps, and the realization that we're all just seven-year-olds in aging bodies.

30-day challenge and I missed like a week. Typical me. I got busy, then I got sick which made me like clinically depressed for some reason, so I was like walking around with a cloud over my head while Christmas Time Is Here by Vince Guaraldi followed me on a broken speaker.

I never know how to even myself out. I get SUPER up, ride it for a few days, then I get super down for a longer span of time. Throw in some neutral days and you got yourself a cocktail.

My daughter has been doing this thing lately where EVERYTHING she does, she complains before she does it. It drives me insane. She’ll say ‘I don’t want to go to swimming practice’ and get really irritated, then go, then rave about how good of a time she had. It’s fucking maddening.

But don’t we all do that? We dread things that we don’t want to do, then we do them, and it’s never that big a deal to begin with.

We’re all 7-year-olds in stale, crusty, aging bodies that are wandering together aimlessly in this ozone soup of fucking madness.

She like leveled up at swimming class, so now she has big kid swimming class that lasts an hour instead of 30 minutes and she has to do real exercise. My wife usually takes her, but I took her today.

It wasn’t bad.

However…

Hearing 50 kids swimming laps is the worst kind of white noise.

Here’s hoping that we stay on the upswing this time around. Any tips? Shoot me an email or something. Let me know I’m not in this completely alone.
